{"id":8028,"date":"2022-03-02T16:13:36","date_gmt":"2022-03-02T21:13:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lammuseum.wfu.edu\/?page_id=8028"},"modified":"2024-06-18T13:33:19","modified_gmt":"2024-06-18T17:33:19","slug":"history-mission","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/lammuseum.wfu.edu\/about\/history-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"History &amp; Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-default\">History<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-2 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:70%\">\n<p>The faculty of the Wake Forest University\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/college.wfu.edu\/anthropology\/\">Department of Anthropology<\/a> established the Museum of Man in 1963 to broaden the learning opportunities available to their students.\u00a0 The Museum was renamed the Museum of Anthropology (MOA) in 1987.\u00a0 In 2020, the Museum moved to its current location in Palmer Hall.\u00a0 In 2021, the Museum was renamed the Timothy S. Y. Lam Museum of Anthropology in honor of Mr. Lam and in recognition of the Lam family\u2019s support.\u00a0 Since its inception, the Museum\u2019s educational role has expanded beyond campus boundaries and into the greater Piedmont Triad community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:30%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/417\/2021\/05\/TSYLportrait-web.jpg\" alt=\"Timothy S. Lam<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-3 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lam Museum of Anthropology creates awareness of global cultures by collecting, protecting, managing, and exhibiting archaeological artifacts, ethnographic objects, and visual arts of past and present peoples, and providing opportunities for intercultural learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Land Acknowledgement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We acknowledge that the Lam Museum of Anthropology stands on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Keyauwee, Tutelo, Saponi, and other Indigenous peoples whose names have been lost, but who stewarded this land for generations.
