{"id":5272,"date":"2020-01-21T12:01:39","date_gmt":"2020-01-21T17:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lammuseum.wfu.edu\/?p=5272"},"modified":"2020-01-21T12:01:39","modified_gmt":"2020-01-21T17:01:39","slug":"new-exhibits-on-display-for-spring-semester","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lammuseum.wfu.edu\/2020\/01\/new-exhibits-on-display-for-spring-semester\/","title":{"rendered":"New Exhibits on Display for Spring Semester"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In January, the Museum opened the final two exhibits that will be displayed in the current building.\u00a0 Both will be on view until the MOA closes for the move on May 30.<\/p>\n<p><em>Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World<\/em> is part of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History\u2019s Outbreak Initiative.\u00a0 It uses public health information provided by the Smithsonian alongside stories, games, and artifacts curated by WFU students.\u00a0 Visitors will be able to explore the connections between human, animal, and environmental health, and discover how people around the world track down and respond to disease outbreaks.\u00a0 In addition to curating the exhibit, the students in Biology Teaching Professor Dr. Pat Lord\u2019s First Year Seminar \u201cOutbreak: Coming Soon to a Neighborhood Near You\u201d installed the exhibit at the end of their course.\u00a0 They included a number of interactive elements to help visitors of all ages engage with the exhibit content.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5273\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5273\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5273\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/417\/2020\/01\/CCC-4-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Bura reliquary\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/88\/2020\/01\/CCC-4-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/88\/2020\/01\/CCC-4-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/88\/2020\/01\/CCC-4-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/88\/2020\/01\/CCC-4-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/88\/2020\/01\/CCC-4-970x1293.jpg 970w, https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/88\/2020\/01\/CCC-4-1400x1866.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/88\/2020\/01\/CCC-4-597x796.jpg 597w, https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/88\/2020\/01\/CCC-4-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5273\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This Bura stone reliquary will be included in Cultures, Contexts, &amp; Collectors.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>Cultures, Contexts, and Collectors <\/em>will open on January 28. \u00a0The objects in this exhibit all have one thing in common: they were recently donated to the Museum of Anthropology.\u00a0 Before this, the objects came from a diversity of cultural traditions and time periods.\u00a0 Their stories continue to develop as MOA researches, conserves, and exhibits them.\u00a0 Wake Forest students in the Introduction to Museum Studies anthropology course curated the exhibit, with additional audio interpretation created by students in the Art of Sound journalism course.\u00a0 Among the artifacts highlighted in the exhibit are a beautifully embroidered Bai baby carrier from China, a Bura stone reliquary from Niger, a Nuristani coat from Afghanistan, and a carved wooden club from the Solomon Islands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In January, the Museum opened the final two exhibits that will be displayed in the current building.\u00a0 Both will be on view until the MOA closes for the move on May 30.
