{"id":2044,"date":"2012-11-01T15:19:06","date_gmt":"2012-11-01T19:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lammuseum.wfu.edu\/?p=2044"},"modified":"2024-07-23T16:04:46","modified_gmt":"2024-07-23T20:04:46","slug":"pima-ceramic-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lammuseum.wfu.edu\/2012\/11\/pima-ceramic-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Pima Ceramic Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/417\/2012\/11\/pima-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2045\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.wp.cdn.aws.wfu.edu\/sites\/417\/2012\/11\/pima-small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"328\" height=\"243\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This mid to late 19<sup>th<\/sup> century ceramic cup is from the Pima tribe in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona.\u00a0 While the Pima are recognized more for their basketry than their ceramic work, this piece demonstrates the cultural importance of their functional pottery.\u00a0 Donated by the Smithsonian Institution to the Wachovia Historical Society in 1905, the cup was likely collected by an early anthropologist working for the Bureau of American Ethnology in the Southwest.\u00a0 After a number of years on loan, the Wachovia Historical Society donated their collection to the MOA in 2005.\u00a0 The cup is the only Pima object in the Museum\u2019s permanent collection.<\/p>\n<p>This Pima cup is the featured object for this year\u2019s Save Our Hide conservation fundraising drive.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/lammuseum.wfu.edu\/support\/conservation-fund\/\">Learn more about\u00a0the Conservation Fund<\/a> and how you can help!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This mid to late 19th century ceramic cup is from the Pima tribe in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona.
